Electronic Voting Machines - The True Story , written by Alok Shukla, former Deputy Election Commissioner, was released on Friday at Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana here. “The book aims to set at rest the misgivings that the political parties as well as citizens have about the EVMs. It has lesser known facts about EVMs and also about Indian democracy,” said Dr. Shukla, speaking on the occasion.
“In the first general elections, there were unmarked ballots that were put in boxes marked with candidates’ symbol and name. At that time, there were complaints about the boxes being switched. The losing party always complains,” said Dr. Shukla. “The information about EVMs being tamper-proof should be in the public domain. It’s a psychological issue as much as a technical one,” said former CEC J.M. Lyngdoh, who released the book. “The credit for turning the idea of a voting machine into a reality should go to S.L Shakdhar. He was the person who spent time in turning a concept into something that we can now hold in our hands and be proud of,” said Mr. Lyngdoh.
