In an attempt to reach out to adolescent diabetic patients and also spread awareness about the ailment among them in the next one-year, the State Government will set up diabetic counselling centres in all the 459 mandals in ten districts of Telangana.
On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah said that the counselling centres will be coming up at a cost of Rs. 300 crore, which has been already allocated by the Central Government, a press release said.
While participating in a meeting with NGOs and youth-based organisations on plans to set up diabetes counselling centres, Dr. Rajaiah said that the counselling centres will reach out to one lakh youth in Telangana who will receive training on management techniques of diabetes.
According to officials, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana are the three States in India chosen for setting up diabetes counselling centres for youth.
Dr. Vijay Kumar of NADPRO (National Diabetes Prevention Control Protection for Youths), who was also present in the meeting, said that the counselling centres will focus on setting up a community college, operating a call centre on diabetes and conduct research on health related subjects
With the co-operation of State Government and private organisations, the diabetic counselling centres will be coming up under Youth and Sports Ministry, GOI.
