Dharna by farmers at Telangana University

Displaced seek due share in jobs

Residents of Nadipally Tanda staged a dharna by squatting before the main entrance gate of Telangana University, in Dichpally mandal on Thursday, protesting against the appointment of non-locals in the outsourcing posts.

They stopped the buses and vehicles carrying teaching and non-teaching staff into the university campus at the gate itself. As a result, the employees had to walk to their colleges and offices, located a kilometer away from the gate. The agitators said that they would continue the agitation until they got their due share in jobs as they sacrificed their lands for the establishment of the university spread over 579 acres.

Outsourced jobs

It may be recalled here that in the last 10 to 15 days a section of students also staged protests and submitted representations to the authorities and elected representatives over the outsourcing appointments. They even approached member of Parliament from Nizamabad K. Kavitha taking the issues in the TU to her notice.

Students and locals said that priority should have been given to locals in the recruitment of outsourcing posts as per the promise made to them before the establishment of the TU, but it was ignored.

Non-locals

That apart, the posts were filled with non-locals (persons from other mandals in the district) on the recommendations of a couple of MLAs, they said. Some 50 persons were recruited by the Vice-Chancellor in different departments. It has become a controversy as he himself in the beginning of his appointment pointed out that the number of outsourcing employees in the university was more than required and would remove some of them.
