DGP tells TV channels to follow programme code

Telangana Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy said that television channels were showing programmes that can provoke violence in the society.

In a press release, here on Thursday, he said that the channels were violating the programme code under Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995.

“It is observed that certain television channels are telecasting content consisting of gory scenes of violence repeatedly in the name of ‘honour killings', which is likely to provoke violence in the society,” Mr. Reddy said.

He requested the managements of all televisio news channels to follow the ‘programme code as prescribed under Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, in telecasting any content in the interest and well-being of the society.
