The district administration took cognisance of the alleged rape at Azaan International School by initiating an inquiry to determine if there were lapses on part of the school management.

The District Education Officer issued show-cause notice to the school management on Saturday to determine if the background of the accused, Mohammed Jeelani, who worked as a supervisor in the school, was verified before recruitment. The DEO also sought to know from the school management why it failed to protect the child on its premises.

The four-and-half-year-old child was allegedly raped by Jeelani after being lured with a chocolate on Friday. The incident came to light after the girl complained of pain to her mother. Before the police arrested Jeelani, locals protested outside the school prompting action against protesters.

A response from the school management is expected on Tuesday, Hyderabad DEO, Venkata Narasamma informed.

Meanwhile, child rights activists have called for protest on Tuesday at Necklace Road to demand the school’s closure.
