Discontent among party leaders against the TPCC leadership was out in the open at its extended executive committee meeting held here on Sunday with several seniors voicing concern against continuing neglect of the party ranks in the field, particularly lack of efforts to prevent defection of leaders to other parties.
Sources in TPCC stated that several leaders have openly criticised the leadership for not making any efforts to speak to the fence-sitters who have plans to quit the party, particularly to join the ruling TRS. “In the past, there was a mechanism to pacify such leaders by sending senior leaders to convince them to prevent their migration”, a senior leader said after the meeting.
“Our leadership has failed to learn even from the experiences in the recent past including defection of four MLAs and several MLCs to the ruling TRS,” the sources observed.
Party’s Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdary left the meeting mid-way alleging that the TPCC leadership was not giving any priority to women. Greater Hyderabad unit president of the party Danam Nagender, who recently announced resignation to the post, was also learnt to have faced criticism from his detractors, who questioned his move ahead of the GHMC elections. However, Mr. Nagender was equally vociferous in stating that some forces were working against him .
Meanwhile, the party leadership made no bones about the erosion in a section of the Congress vote bank due to MIM plans to expand beyond Hyderabad.
A few leaders suggested the leadership to take up issues concerning minorities vociferously to retain the vote bank.
