Dandari enlivens Adivasi land in Telangana

In all its vibrancy: Adivasis performing the Dandari dance at Shambhuguda in Adilabad district on Thursday.

The Adivasi land in former united Adilabad district is currently under the spell of Dandari music and dance festival what with the Diwali festive mood engulfing the aboriginal habitations. Dandari-Ghusadi dance troupes are visiting other villages to strengthen the cultural bond.

The Dandari is the way of life of the Raj Gond and Kolam ethnic people, which originated in the forests centuries ago.

Folk art

It has emerged as one of the most alluring forms of folk art, which is performed in tribal habitations, many of which still exist in forests and forest fringes.

The Dandari troupe from Dhamanguda visited Shambhuguda in Gudihatnoor mandal on Thursday as a measure of reciprocation of the visit that the latter had made last year to it. The vigorous dances were the order of the day as the visiting troupe performed the traditional chachoi dances. “The guest troupe will return in the evening. The troupe from our village will be visiting another village the next day,” revealed Shambhuguda Sarpanch Kumram Shambhu.
