Haribhai P. Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Home, on Wednesday termed as “bad” the recent Dadri incident where a 50-year-old man was dragged out of his house and beaten to death following rumours that he had consumed beef.

The Centre was closely monitoring the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh where the incident occurred, he said, while addressing a press conference after the ceremonial parade organised at the Hakimpet Rapid Action Force 99 Battalion Centre on the city outskirts.

The event marked the 23{+r}{+d}anniversary celebrations of the RAF. Mr. Chaudhary said the Centre was keeping a close watch on the attempts of the outlawed Islamic State to recruit Indian youths. Earlier, addressing the personnel, Mr. Chaudhary declared that the lower rung personnel of paramilitary forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and others could directly write to him, instead of approaching their Directors General for redress of their grievances.

Recalling his recent visit to border areas, he said he had learnt that constables in the Border Security Force and the CRPF didn’t get even a single promotion even after 22 years of service. Immediately, the government had decided to promote all constables who had completed 20 years of service as head constables in paramilitary forces.

Reacting to CRPF Director General Prakash Misra’s appeal to expedite the process for the creation of five new RAF battalions, Mr. Chaudhary promised favourable action.
