‘Bicyclone' was delayed by an hour or so but it did not dampen the early morning risers with their bicycles to hit the Necklace road kept free for them exclusively in first such event in the capital.

The event initiated jointly by GHMC and Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) saw Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Mayor Majid Hussain, Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu and others joining the decent number of bicycle enthusiasts in cycling for a distance on the stretch.

In fact, Mr. Hussain and Mr. Krishna Babu even cycled till the Sanjeeviah Park from the People's Plaza and showed that they are fit and healthy . The Chief Minister hailed the programme and wanted it to be propagated further among the citizens for making Hyderabad clean and healthy.

The government would support such initiatives to the municipal corporation, he said.

The Mayor sought the government's help so that GHMC can do a much better job in the capital's upkeep.

Organisers have reserved the Necklace Road from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the pedestrians and cyclists every Sunday and 100 bicycles are available for free till the month end. Later, a fee will be charged. Ten other roads too have been chosen for such an initiative and are likely to be rolled out in the days to come.
