October 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Four TSRTC employees working at the Jeedimetla bus depot lost around Rs.1 lakh to cyber crooks three days ago, the police said on Monday.

The employees, who hold State Bank of Hyderabad ATM-cum-debit card, got a phone call from some strangers on Saturday. “The caller asked the victims to reveal their account number and CVC number saying that the bank was confirming their accounts. A few minutes later, the conman again called them and asked a ‘One Time Password’ sent to them,” Inspector Cyber Crime Md Riyazuddin said. A little later, the RTC employees got a message of money being debited from their accounts. Realising that they have been duped, the victims approached the Cyber Crime cell of Cyberabad police and made a complaint.

The conmen collected the card details of the victims from some source. The RTC employees hold salary accounts and the accounts numbers are generally in a serial order. Cashing upon it, the fraudsters called up the victims and duped them, the Inspector added.
