When Union Minister for Transport, Roads & Highways Nitin Gadkari, arrives in Hyderabad tomorrow, among the spree of foundation stones he will be laying for road works, the most important could well be the proposed widening of the roads towards Shamshabad airport from Aaramgarh.
The 10 km four lane road is to be widened to six lanes including an elevated corridor of 1.2 km to fly over the Shamshabad town thereby easing vehicular movement towards the international airport and onwards to Bangalore. The Centre has agreed to fund the project estimated to cost about ₹283.15 crore, said TS Minister for Roads & Buildings T. Nageshwara Rao on Friday.
At a press conference flanked by Mayor B. Rammohan, Enginering-in-Chief I. Ganapati Reddy and others, the Minister gave details of the Union Minister’s programme and said the State Government will be spending upto ₹50 crore for land acquisition and once done the entire stretch of about will ease traffic flow which also witnesses heavy VIPs movement to and fro from the airport.
Mr. Rao also claimed that the Union Government has given its consent to fund the proposed 337 km six lane Regional Ring Road (RRR) expected to come within 30 km radius of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) connecting Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Bhuvanagiri, Chotuppal, Chevella and Shankarpally at an estimated cost of ₹7,500 crore.
“Mr. Gadkari assured to take up the work and asked us to take care of land acquisition but we expressed our inability requesting the Centre to fund the entire project. This is Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s pet project and he has been personally involved in finalising the plan,” he said.
Another crucial project taking off will be the ORR to Medak 62 km long, double lane road widening connecting Narsapur, Rampur and Medak at an estimated cost of ₹426.52 crore. Tenders have been finalised.
Foundations tone for two flyovers within GHMC, one at the Amberpet crossroads of about 1.45 km with the Centre allocating ₹186.71 crore and Government to spend upto ₹240 crore for land acquisition and utilities shifting and another at the Uppal junction -Bhupalapatnam road which will be 6.25 km six lane elevated corridor costing ₹626.76 crore and Government to spend upto ₹769 crore for land acquisition, are also to be laid.
The Minister said these two could ease traffic flow at Amberpet and also vehicles going towards Gandhinagar, Boduppal, Yadadri, Ghatkesar, etc. The Government has also sought ₹1000 crore from the Central Road Fund when Mr. Rao met the Union Minister at Delhi earlier this week.
