Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said that the Government had increased surveillance in vulnerable localities in the city.
“Crime rate in the city is not as high as that of other cities,” he said, citing examples of Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. The percentage of chain-snatching cases in the city has dropped by 52 per cent from 2013 to 2015, he said.
The State has also booked 192 offenders and arrested 151 repeated offenders under the Preventive Detention Act, he said.
The Minister said that crime related to firearms, robbery at ATM centres and houses had not increased over the years in Hyderabad.
“The police force has provided security round the clock. Areas with high incidence of crime are under special surveillance,” the Minister said.
