CPI(M) to fight against displacement of tribals

Updated - May 17, 2015 05:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State committee of CPI(M) has resolved to intensify its fight against the alleged displacement of tribal communities in the name of ‘Haritha Haram’ project.

State secretary T. Veerabhadram told a press conference after the meeting of the committee today that the tribals were cultivating forest lands for a long time, and trying to drive them away in the name of plantation amounted to injustice and violation of Forest Rights Act promulgated during UPA government’s rule.

He alleged that the government had instructed officials to force the tribals out of forest lands, even if it meant use of PD Act against them.

“The government is resorting to such actions, besides not fulfilling its promise of three acres of land for STs. We have resolved to initiate direct action against this,” Mr.Veerabhadram informed.

Other issues discussed were government’s non-responsiveness with regard to farmers’ problems, and revision of wages for workers in unorganised sector.
