The Greater Hyderabad unit of the Communist Party of India took a rally around noon on Friday demanding that tainted ministers in the Centre and State be removed from their positions.
A few hundreds of CPI(M) cadres, led by city unit secretary M. Srinivas, walked from Golconda crossroads to the busy RTC crossroads, raising slogans against Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj (External Affairs), Smriti Irani (Human Resources Department) and Chief Ministers Vasundhara Raje (Rajasthan) and N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh).
The agitators wanted that the whip be cracked on those in power, whose names were linked with cases of corruption, whether it was in the Centre or State.
Mr. Srinivas wondered how Prime Minister Narendra Modi could continue with people like Ms. Sushma Swaraj and Ms. Smriti Irani when their names were linked with instances of corruption and fake degree certificates.
Closer home, he said the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were indulging in a mud-slinging match aimed at diverting the attention of people from the cash-for-vote case.
“When Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy claimed they had clear evidence against Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and others, why are they not being arrested?” he questioned.
