Cool comfort: 12 AC buses plying to IT corridor

TSRTC has introduced six buses each on Secunderabad-Waverock, Uppal-Waverock routes

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has introduced as many 53 buses on different routes since March, the latest being 12 air-conditioned buses connecting various parts of the city to the IT corridor.

TSRTC officials said there has been an increasing demand for AC buses to the IT corridor. As a result, the transport juggernaut launched six Metro Luxury Volvo buses from Secunderabad to Waverock and another six from Uppal to Waverock. “While the Secunderabad to Waverock route came into effect earlier this month, the Uppal to Waverock came into effect on May 9. We intend to keep the frequency of each bus under 30 minutes,”a TSRTC official said, adding that the organisation is hopeful of a 65% occupancy ratio on both routes.

In connection with the Uppal to Waverock route, the official said the route will cover newer areas such as Tilak Nagar Crossroads, Shivam, Adikmet, Ramnagar and VST.

Buses from to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport via Nehru Zoological Park route, which were witnessing low occupancy ratios, have been diverted for the Secunderabad to Waverock route.

Other bus services introduced in the recent past to the IT Corridor include four Metro Luxury buses from JNTU in Kukatpally to Waverock via Hitec City, Gachibowli, Infosys and Wipro Circle, six Metro Metro Express buses from Allywn Crossroads in Miyapur to Waverock via Hafizpet, Kondapur, Kothaguda, Gachibowli and Infosys. Also, 15 Metro Express and City Ordinary have been introduced between Maithrivanam in Ameerpet to Waverock.

Apart from these, bus services have also been introduced from Shamshabad to RGIA via Tukkuguda, Secunderabad to Old Bowenpally via Paradise Metro Station and L.B. Nagar to Rachakonda Police Copmmissionerate via Neredment. Also, four buses Metro Luxury Buses have been introduced from JNTU to Uppal Cross Roads.

While commuters have welcomed the move, they pointed out that the JNTU to Uppal route, with four Metro Luxury buses, could have more. Further, they said while the Maithrivanam to Waverock route is largely hassle-free, it would greatly help commuters if the bus stop at Cyber Towers is moved closer to the Hitec City metro station.
