Contempt notice to Telangana government

Asked to file counter affidavit

June 28, 2018 10:19 pm | Updated 10:19 pm IST - HYDERABAD

The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday passed an order to serve notices on the Telangana government following a petition seeking contempt proceedings against it over repatriation of some TS Transco employees to Andhra Pradesh based on nativity.

A division bench comprising Justice C. V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice G. Shyam Prasad passed the order. In 2015, some employees had filed a series of writ petitions challenging their repatriation by the TS Transco to A.P. based on their nativity. A division bench comprising Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice M.S.K. Jaiswal had heard the petitions.

Four months ago, after hearing arguments of both sides, the bench had declared the repatriation of employees arbitrary and unconstitutional. The employees approached the High Court again, stating that the Telangana Government and TS Transco had failed to comply with the order of the bench and sought contempt proceedings against them.

The bench directed that notices be served on the Telangana government and top officials of the TS Transco and the TS Genco. They were directed to file counter affidavits. The matter was posted for hearing after three weeks.
