Former Minister and Manthani legislator D. Sridhar Babu, along with his supporters, staged a massive dharna and rasta roko in Manthani town on Wednesday demanding that the authorities take up the road works from Manthani to Kaleshwaram, which were damaged badly due to plying of sand-laden lorries.
Stating that the road from Manthani to Kaleshwaram and Manthani to Peddapalli was damaged badly due to illegal sand quarry operations and transportation of heavily loaded lorries, he demanded that the government take up the road works immediately as the people travelling on the road were facing several problems and causing accidents.
He also urged the authorities concerned to check the illegal transportation of sand in the district. Natural resources from the Manthani segment were being siphoned off and basic development denied, he added.
