Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday criticised the Congress leadership for its comments on the Pulwama terror attack and accused it of putting national interests on the back burner.

Mr. Goyal was addressing a gathering of party workers and supporters at the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign ahead of the general elections.

Reacting to senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda's comments, Mr Goyal said, “We've seen yesterday that the chief of the Congress Manifesto Committee, who is the closest aide of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who a friend of his father, and somebody who is considered an ideologue and guru of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, has exposed the mindset of the Congress. For them, terrorist attack in Mumbai was “some things happen.” It is a shame, and a deplorable attitude.”

Mr. Goyal alleged that the comment shows that the Congress is ignoring national interests, and national security. “The country will be unsafe in the hands of an immature leadership that the Congress is offering,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi offers the country a strong and decisive leadership.

He said when the Congress was in power, beneficiaries did not receive full benefits of welfare schemes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, has given the country inclusive governance by means of sab ka saath, sab ka vikas .

Mr. Goyal said the BJP has ensured linking citizens with banking system and inflation has been controlled. Touching upon its efforts to make the country open-defecation free, the Union Minister said that around 10 crore toilets have been constructed.

He urged citizens of the country to work as chowkidars for the development and progress for the country.
