Congress distances itself from MP’s letter

May 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Congress party has completely disassociated itself from the letter written by its Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him not to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

The entire Congress stood committed to the concession to Andhra Pradesh as it was deprived of revenue generated in Hyderabad after bifurcation. The party decided to extend the facility as eleven States already has it, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh told reporters here.

He said he spoke to Mr. Reddy over phone on Tuesday night and told him that he should not have written the letter. Mr. Reddy replied that he wrote in his personal capacity, Mr. Ramesh said.

He blamed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for not implementing provisions of bifurcation law though the latter claimed that the NDA government will improve on the concessions made by the Congress for Andhra Pradesh.
