‘Cong behind weakening of Muslims and Dalits’

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi campaigns in Nalgonda

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said the Congress had a large role to play in the emaciation of the Muslim and Dalit communities.

Mr. Owaisi was addressing a public meeting in Nalgonda in support of TRS candidate Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy, who is taking on Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy in the constituency. “The Congress indeed has had a major role to play in weakening of minorities and Dalits,” Mr. Owaisi said, as he questioned what the party has done for these two communities.

Mr. Owaisi accused the Congress leadership of shying from using the word ‘Muslim’ and claimed that this is being replaced by ‘alp sankhyak’ or ‘minorities’. He sought to know why the party then uses janeu dhari and alleged that it feels ashamed to use ‘Muslim’. Questioning the Congress’ secularism, AIMIM president criticised the Madhya Pradesh government for invoking the National Security Act against Muslims for their alleged involvement in cow slaughter.

“I want to ask Congress, is this your secularism? And then you want to come to Telangana and accuse the TRS and MIM of being B – Team and C – Team,” Mr Owaisi said. Taking a swipe at Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who vowed to not shave his beard till the party comes to power, Mr. Owaisi said that the Mr. Reddy’s beard would outgrow his. The Congress, Mr. Owaisi, asserted would not come to power.

Commending the Telangana government for maintaining peace and harmony in the State, he said that he would continue to support the TRS for as long as the party works for the welfare of Dalits, Muslims and other weaker sections of society.
