Commercial 19-kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders turned dearer on Friday after national oil marketing companies increased the price by ₹250 per refill.
While the immediate fallout could be tea stalls, eateries and restaurants resorting to a pass through, the development may also portend another hike in the price of domestic LPG refills. The 19-kg product pricing is linked to the international LPG prices, which also serves as a benchmark for the cost of 14.2 kg refills used by households.
Unlike the commercial cylinders, the domestic refills are subsidised and a portion of the cost is also borne by the oil marketing companies. The new price of a 19-kg cylinder is ₹2,460 in Hyderabad. This is inclusive of the ₹250 hike and the incremental tax.
Technically speaking another hike in domestic LPG cylinders may be round the corner, but there are no indications to that effect from the oil companies, a leader of Telangana LPG Distributors Association said. In March, the domestic cooking gas refill prices were increased by ₹50 each.
Commercial LPG cylinder price were increased on a day when pump prices of petrol and diesel were maintained after upward revisions on nine days since March 22.
