CLMC expresses solidarity with RTC staff

The Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) expressed grave concern over the ongoing indefinite strike by the TSRTC employees, and condemned the government’s attitude describing it as “callous and stubborn”.

Through a release on Thursday, the committee demanded that the government deal with the strike on humanitarian grounds, and said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has completely failed to deal with the employees, and instead, resorting to tactics such as dismissals and arrests.

Despite Mr. Rao’s tenure as Union Labour Minister, it is unfortunate that he is unable to understand the grievances of his own State’s employees. To protest is a right given by the Constitution, and it is the government’s responsibility to initiate a dialogue to find a solution so as not to subject people to hardships. However, the Telangana government has failed in its duty, and instead, extended school holidays. The RTC employees have been in the forefront of separate statehood movement, but unfortunately, are forced to struggle for their rights even in the separate State, the note said.

The CLMC expressed solidarity with RTC employees and appealed to them not to become victims of anxiety and sacrifice lives in vain.
