Utter confusion is prevailing over the formation of Grand Alliance and allocation of seats among the main ally Congress and CPI and TJS parties in the erstwhile unified Karimnagar district.

Out of a total of 13 Assembly segments in the erstwhile Karimnagar district, the Congress was likely to put up candidates from 10 Assembly segments and the TDP two and the CPI one. The TDP had initially planned to contest from Korutla and Huzurabad Assembly segments and the CPI from Husnabad Assembly segment.

However, the TDP leaders were not showing interest to contest elections from the district. Telangana TDP state president L. Ramana, who showed interest to contest from Korutla Assembly segment because of strong BC vote bank comprising of Padmashali community, has decided not to contest this time. Similarly, former minister E. Peddi Reddy planned to contest from Huzurabad Assembly segment but now changed his plans to contest from Kukatpally Assembly in Greater Hyderabad as he did not want to risk contesting against Minister for Finance Eatala Rajender.

The CPI state unit is firm on its stand to contest from Husnabad Assembly segment and its State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy is showing keen interest to enter the fray from there.

Many aspirants

As the Telangana Jana Samithi had not taken roots in the erstwhile unified district, the Congress had no plans to allocate any seat to it.

In the meantime, the Congress aspirants had applied for the party tickets from 11 Assembly segments barring Jagtial and Manthani Assembly segments which would be represented by T. Jeevan Reddy and D. Sridhar Babu respectively. The Congress aspirants had applied for the tickets from Karimnagar, Choppadandi, Huzurabad, Husnabad, Korutla, Sircilla, Vemulawada, Ramagundam, Peddapalli, Manakondur and Dharmapuri.

Similarly, the rebels’ threat is also likely to become a cause of concern if the Congress party allocates the tickets to the allies from Husnabad, Huzurabad and Korutla assembly segments. There are three to five aspirants for the party ticket from each Assembly segment in the district .
