For someone who is called Golden Girl from Hyderabad in the world of martial arts, Syeda Falak has now achieved another significant feat making it to the Indian team for the US Open Karate Championship in Las Vegas from March 24 to 27 and also to the Dubai Open Championship from April 6 to 8 and also the WKF Premier League in Dubai from April 8 to 10.

The 22-year-old Falak, who was the first from the newly-formed Telangana State to win a senior national gold, feels that these events should be of great experience in her endeavour to keep moving up the ladder.

“With the best of the karatekas competing from across the world, I am all excited and at the same time very keen to prove a point or two,” Falak informed The Hindu .

The winner of 13 international medals and 19 national titles will be competing in the 68 kg category has already tasted what it means to be there in such events have already represented India in the World championship earlier.

This girl from the old city of Hyderabad earlier had the misfortune of missing the 2014 Asian Games despite qualifying because of warring groups in the national federation.

“Well, there are certain things which are beyond our control. All I am doing right now is to focus on my sport and keep winning laurels,” says the champion athlete who hails from the by-lanes of Dewan Devdi near Medina at the historic Charminar.

No good partners

“The biggest problem for me is that I don’t have quality sparring partners. But, thanks to the efforts of my coach and mentor Balram Rajput, I could continue my passion for the sport which not many girls dare to take up,” she says with a big smile.

Falak always loved challenges from childhood and that is the reason why she has forayed into karate and is now clearly looking ahead to winning more laurels for the country.
