In a first for the city police, the official vehicle of the chief of Hyderabad Traffic Police was fined for wrong parking in a carriageway.

This reporter had clicked a picture of the white SUV parked beside a ‘No Parking’ sign near Mahankali Traffic police station, and tweeted “@HYDTP will you issue a “No Parking”e-challan to this vehicle? Place: Near Mahankali Traffic PS. Time: 3 p.m. on 15 November, 2018.” Responding to it in a few hours, the Hyderabad Traffic Police tweeted that the vehicle was fined for violating a No Parking norm, even though the official vehicle allotted to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar. A violation ticket of wrong/unauthorised parking of ₹235 which included service fee, was issued on the vehicle. “ #HYDTPallRequalB4Law Challan issued for Wrong Parking,” the tweet from their official handle ‘HYDTP’ said.

Public money spent?

Meanwhile, a twitter-user @Kartheek777 appreciated the swift action by the traffic authorities and raised concern over the payment of challan.

“Good to see even protocol vehicle of a senior IPS officer being challaned for traffic violation. Now, the question is who is going to pay for it? Vehicle was registered on govt, so is it public money which has to be paid!? I strongly demand action against the IPS officer too,” he tweeted. Earlier, several e-challans were also issued against policemen for violating the rules after traffic police received complaints on social media.

For instance, a traffic cop was booked for not wearing a helmet after receiving a complaint on the Twitter handle.

Later, they posted “#HYDTPallRequalBeforeLaw We won’t wink at the violations of our men. We will definitely shoot him with e-challan. Traffic Law is equal for all and should be followed for our own safety. Please wear the helmet. Happy riding.”
