Despite the ban on digging of roads in view of the monsoon, permission is being granted occasionally based on the priority of such works, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said.

He cited cable works for installation of CCTV cameras, among others, as an instance of such works, while addressing the City Convergence Meeting held at Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s office on Saturday.

However, precautions were being taken not to cause difficulties to citizens, he said.

He told the officials to keep an eye on the Twitter accounts of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K. T. Rama Rao and senior officials, as many complaints of civic problems were being posted in these accounts.

In view of the prediction of rains by the Met department during the coming two to three days, Mr. Janardhan Reddy issued directions to the line departments to work in coordination to tackle any emergency.

He asked Power department officials to make sure that pruned tree branches were removed from the sites as soon as the work was completed, and asked them to devise a permanent solution to the issue.

He also asked the officials to identify the offenders dumping construction debris into the lakes and take action against them, as the lifting of such debris was organised into a separate system now.

The GHMC was planning to take up plantation of 40 lakh saplings in the Haritha Haram programme this year, out of which 35 lakh would be supplied to citizens free of cost, he said.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Vishwanath Sajjanar suggested that the GHMC make it mandatory for multi-storeyed buildings to install CCTV cameras, before giving building permissions.

He also requested immediate repairs to damaged road stretches.

Officials of the GHMC and Traffic Police, among others, participated in the meeting.
