The May 18, 2007 bomb blast was the first major incident in Hyderabad in which probe agencies suspected a Hindu right-wing hand.

May 18, 2007: Around 1.25 p.m., soon after the afternoon prayers, an improvised explosive device, kept beneath a slabstone inside Mecca Masjid, explodes. Nine dead, 58 injured. Five more killed in police firing to control a mob.
May 19: Andhra Pradesh police registered a case, took up investigations and arrested more than 200 persons, but couldn't achieve any breakthrough due to lack of evidence.
June 9, 2007: Case is transferred to the CBI.
August 25, 2007: Even as investigation was on, twin blasts rocked the city at Gokul Chat in Koti and Lumbini park on Necklace Road. 42 died in twin blasts, over 100 injured.
2010: CBI arrested Devender Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Swami Aseemanand.
2011: Case transferred to NIA. CBI and NIA filed chargesheets against 10 accused, all members of Abhinav Bharat, inclusing Swami Aseemanand.
March 23, 2017: Swami Aseemanand granted bail.
February 15, 2018: Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, a prime witness in the Mecca Masjid blast case, turns hostile.
April 16, 2018: All the accused are acquitted by a special NIA court citing lack of evidence.
