Cholesterol lowering drug unveiled

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has launched Colesevelam HCl Tablets, a therapeutic equivalent generic version of Welchol tablets, in the US market.

A cholesterol lowering drug, Welchol is a registered trademark of Daiichi Sankyo Inc. The Welchol brand and generic had US sales of around $471 million MAT for the 12 months ended August 2018, Dr. Reddy’s said citing IMS Health figures.

Announcing that the launch follows US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) approval, a release from Dr. Reddy’s on Tuesday said its Colesevelam Hydrochloride tablet has got USFDA approval and is available in 625 mg with 180 count bottle size.
