Child marriage stopped

The Chatrinaka police on Monday stopped the marriage of a minor girl scheduled later this week after counselling her parents. The marriage of the girl who is studying in ninth standard was fixed on December 12.

On coming to know about it, Chatrinaka Inspector N. Laxmi Narayana, along with officials of Women and Child Welfare Department visited the girl’s house at Thanajinagar. After counselling the family members, the child was shifted to a hostel.

The police said that the girl’s father had three wives and was planning to marry off his daughter at an early age.
