It was the turn of another weightlifter from Andhra Pradesh to dazzle in the ongoing Junior National meet at Guwahati. M. R. Chaitanya clinched two gold medals in the 105-kg category with an effort of 124-kg in snatch and then 164-kg in clean and jerk.

For someone who narrowly missed a bronze in the recent Commonwealth Championship in Penang where his teammate Ragala Venkata Rahul was adjudged ‘best lifter’, Chaitanya made amends to clinch the gold on Sunday.

“Ít was a very satisfying performance and I badly needed this win,” was how the Kavali-born lifter reacted from Guwahati. This even as the boys’ team finished runner-up in the team championship.

“This performance should definitely boost his confidence as it was [only] Rahul [Ragala Venkata] who had been quite rightly hogging the limelight [till now],” says coach P. Manikyala Rao.
