Chain-snatcher sentenced

A notorious chain snatcher, who was involved in 383 cases in the City and surrounding areas, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on Saturday.

Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nampally announced the verdict after holding him guilty in two cases of chain snatching reported in Kachiguda police station area in May and October last year. The offender, Syed Hussain alias Lamba Hussain alias Lamba (27) of Basarathnagar in Jahanuma area of Old City, was caught in December by the police.

On May 5 last year, he snatched a gold chain weighing three tolas from a housewife at Moti Market when she went out to buy a milk sachet. In the other case, on October 4, Lamba, along with his associate Mirza Azmath Ali, snatched a chain weighing five-and-a-half tolas at Lingampally cross roads.
