Central official happy with pace of Kaleshwaram work

‘It is Ministry’s duty to monitor work’

Assistant Inspector General of the Union Forest and Environment Ministry Nisheeth Saxena expressed satisfaction at the pace of work of the Kaleshwaram Irrigation project, a press statement from the Forest Department informed.

On an inspection tour here on Monday, Mr.Saxena held a review meeting on the environmental clearances to Kaleshwaram project, and said it is also duty of the Ministry to monitor if the work being done commensurates with the permissions given.

After viewing the works through a video display, Mr.Saxena asked the Forest officials and work agencies to take up compensatory afforestation in a responsible manner.

Mr. Saxena directed them to ensure the safe transportation of construction waste, and guard against dumping of the same in forest areas.

During his two-day tour, Mr.Saxena also visited the compensatory afforestation work in the land given in lieu of loss of forest land for power plant at Damarcherla in Nalgonda.

The compensatory afforestation works will be monitored every three months, he informed.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests P.K. Jha and other officials participated in the review meeting, the note said.
