For Sania Mirza, it has almost become a habit of sorts for close to one year to return home from an international competition with a sense of pride. The Hyderabadi returned home on Sunday with a familiar smile having captured the Australian Open women’s doubles title last Thursday. Scripting what has been truly an unbelievable success story of remaining undefeated in 36 consecutive matches, partnering Martina Hingis, the 29-year-old Sania remarked: “Well, it has been a dream for close to an year in the circuit. No one would have imagined this kind of success at the highest level. But I am really enjoying every moment and hope to keep going in the days to come.”

With father-cum-coach Imran Mirza standing tall, literally, Sania was received by her sister Anam Mirza and her husband Akbar on arrival at the airport to a simple but warm reception. “I am glad to win another Grand Slam title and it is definitely an incredible feeling to complete a hat-trick of Grand Slam titles. It has been a dream run so far. You all know it is never easy to win every tournament we play. I know one day we have to be losers, but just hope it won’t be in the near future,” Sania remarked sporting a huge smile.

“It is a huge honour to get the Padma Bhushan award. These are the kind of awards which mean a lot, for they remind you about your achievements and because of the kind of respect you get from the people around,” Sania said referring to yet another latest feather in her cap.

The Telangana Brand Ambassador would be spending just 30 hours on her return from Australia with her family before flying to Delhi and then on to Russia for another international assignment.

Imran remarked it was a terrific feeling to be there in stands and be witness to history created by Sania.
