The Barkathpura Housing Board Colony Association on Friday launched its community CCTV and Safe Colony Project, which comprised installation of 16 CCTV cameras and four gates at the entry points. The entire set came at a cost of about Rs. 8.25 lakh, which was borne by the residents of the colony, in which 400 families reside.

According to a press release from the city police, boom barricades have also been erected at four entry/exit points out of six, with all of them having CCTV cameras.

A CCTV monitoring panel has also been set up for continuous vigil by the community itself. The camera feeds are accessible to the residents.

M. Mahender Reddy, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, launched the project at an event held on Friday evening.
