Campaigning for Jakkepalli MPTC reaches its peak

By-election is on January 11 and counting on January 13

Campaigning for the Jakkepalli Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seat in Kusumanchi mandal, necessitated due to the death of the sitting member, reached its peak with the ruling TRS and the CPI (M) candidates intensifying their electioneering. The by-poll is slated for January 11.

The by-election is witnessing a neck-and-neck fight between the TRS candidate Banoth Veerabhadramma and the CPI (M) candidate Banoth Bharathi.

The unexpected withdrawal of nominations by the Congress and the TDP candidates, much to the chagrin of the respective parties, turned the contest into a straight two-way fight.

Stung by the sudden development, the Congress and the TDP local leaders have extended their support to the CPI (M) candidate in a bid to trounce the ruling party contestant at the hustings.

Though inconsequential from the numerical strength standpoint, the ruling TRS and the CPI (M) have attached importance to the by-poll with an eye on the general elections due in 2019.

Furthermore, the TRS is leaving nothing to chance to win the Jakkepalli MPTC falling under the Palair constituency, represented by Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao.

A total of 2,280 voters will exercise their franchise in Thursday’s by-poll. The counting will be held on January 13.
