A businessman was killed and three of his brothers sustained injuries when his in-laws attacked them with lethal weapons at the reception function of the victim’s sister at Tallabkatta in old city late on Sunday night.

The victim, Mohammed Ahmed (30), a cloth trader lived along with his wife Sajida and five-year-old daughter at Amannagar under Bhavaninagar police station. On Sunday night, Ahmed along with his family was attending the marriage reception of his sister, Rubina Begum at Hidayath Function Hall in Tallabkatta.

Around midnight, Ahmed’s father-in-law Sirajuddin, his sons Nazeeruddin and Tajuddin along with two other relatives came to the function hall and had dinner. A little later, Sirajuddin along with four of his relatives waylaid Ahmed and his brother Mubassir when they came out of the function hall to meet an acquaintance.

“One of them attacked Mubassir with a dagger on head while some others stabbed Ahmed to death. Two brothers of Ahmed, who came to his rescue were also attacked,” Bhavaninagar Inspector B. Srinivasa Rao said.

Sirajuddin and his sons suspected that Ahmed wrote an anonymous letter to the Rein Bazaar police alleging that they were trading in lethal weapons such as daggers and swords. Following the tip off, the police called Sirajuddin and questioned him. Since then, the father-in-law bore a grudge against Ahmed and planned to settle scores with him, the Inspector explained.

The police registered a case under Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) read with 34 (common act done by several persons) of Indian Penal code against Sirajuddin and others and detained two persons for questioning.
