B.Tech student crushed to death while boarding train

She was returning to Vijayawada after Dasara vacation

Boarding a moving train at Lingampally station proved fatal for a final year engineering student, who was headed back to her college in Vijayawada after Dasara vacation.

Supritha Shah (20), a resident of Nallagandla in Serilingampally, was crushed to death after falling between the platform and train, said Government Railway Police SI Dasya Naik.

Supritha was attempting to board Amaravathi Intercity Express when the incident took place around 4.40 a.m. “Apparently, by the time she reached the railway station, the train had started moving and in a hurry to board it, she slipped and fell between the platform and train,” Mr. Naik said.

The victim’s parents and brother had come to see her off at the station. The body was handed over to family members for last rites after post-mortem at Osmania General Hospital.

Flyer held with cash

A Vijayawada-bound passenger carrying ₹25 lakh in cash was detained by CISF officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Monday evening. He along with the seized amount was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials who allegedly let him off later and allowed him to board the flight.

The passenger in question, Mallela Rajesh Naidu, was scheduled to fly by SpiceJet flight (SG 3710) when the officials nabbed him while scanning his baggage during security check at the domestic terminal, sources said.

Speaking to The Hindu , an officer said around 6 p.m., Mr Naidu was detained by CISF officials, who recovered ₹25 lakh from him. “Though he failed to submit valid documents for the cash, DRI officials allowed him to board his flight and further action will be taken at Vijayawada airport, if necessary,” the officer added.

Man ‘rapes’ daughter

A 45-year-old daily wage earner sexually assaulted his minor daughter at their house in Shabad of Ranga Rreddy district on Saturday night after getting drunk, police said. “After raping the 14-year-old girl on late Saturday night, the accused fled from the spot and a manhunt has been launched to nab him,” Shabad police said.

Following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and other relevant sections of POCSO Act was registered against the accused.

Watchman kills wife

A 32-year-old watchman bludgeoned his wife to death with a pestle following a petty fight at their house in Hydershakote in Gandipet on Monday. Sunalla Sridevi (30), a domestic help, was rushed to Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Narsingi police said the offence took place around 7 a.m. when Sridevi and Shantaiah were quarrelling, following which the latter picked up a pestle and hit his wife’s head with it. They had got married seven years ago and have three children. A case has been registered and a probe is on.
