‘Bring government residential schools under one umbrella’

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Office-bearers of the Federation of Government Residential Teachers & Employees Organisations (FGRTEO) at a roundtable here on Sunday urged the Telangana government to examine a 100-page document that was presented earlier and bring different government residential/Gurukul schools under the umbrella of a single directorate.

Federation Chairman K. Ravichander referred to the excellent results achieved by students of residential schools and Gurukul ‘Patashalas’ and said this was enough reason for the government to take concrete steps to protect this system of education. “Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said he was keen on the ‘KG to PG’ programme envisaging free education and if we had a directorate, it will pave the way for this too,” he pointed out. Some of the demands, Mr. Ravichander said, were improving infrastructure and enhancing the per capita expenditure of students, abolition of contract system and regularising the services of contract employees, filling up of teaching and non-teaching vacancies and bringing all residential institutions under the purview of the Pay Revision Commission-2015 and restoring parity of scales by enhancing at least three stages. Secretary-General of the Federation, K. Venkat Reddy, said there was an urgent need for the government to be pro-active and take steps aimed at improving confidence among teaching and non-teaching employees.
