‘Breast cancer claiming many lives’

Senior surgeon D. Narayana Rao said that cancer, if detected at an early stage and treated, could be completely cured.

Addressing a gathering of students at the Breast Cancer Awareness camp at Government Polytechnic College for Women here on Sunday, he said women should be aware of the disease and should approach doctors if there is trace of any lump.

In his welcome address, college principal N. Madhu said that HIV/AIDS used to claim many lives till four five years ago but with continuous awareness campaigns, it had been brought under control. Over 2 lakh women test positive for breast cancer and of them, about 40,000 die every year, he added.

IMA former secretary R. Vidyasagar complimented the IMA for coming forward to educate students on the subject.
