Bodhan civic chief survives no-trust move

No quorum at meeting

The no confidence motion moved by 29 out of 34 members of the Bodhan municipal council against the chairperson A. Yellappa was defeated due to lack of quorum at the council meeting on Wednesday.

Sub-Collector Anurag Jayanthi who conducted the proceedings as the special officer appointed by the district Collector announced that the meeting convened for the debate and voting on the motion was cancelled due to lack of mandatory attendance of council members. Only eight members attended the meeting and 18 were in a camp in Bengaluru. Since there is no scope for moving no-confidence motion against the chairperson for another year, Yellappa can complete the full five-year term without any political hurdle. It may be recalled here that the ruling party councillors who signed the no-confidence motion notice given to the Collector abstained from the meeting following the intervention of the MP K. Kavitha and the MLA Mohammed Shakeel Amir.
