BLF to go it alone in Assembly polls

Working with a long-term vision: Veerabhadram

CPI(M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram asserted the party’s stand that the Bahujana Left Front (BLF) will go it alone in majority of the 119 constituencies in the upcoming State Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Veerabhadram termed Congress as equally depraved as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in its policies towards development of Telangana State.

“It is not our responsibility to ensure victory of this party over that. Why should it concern us that either of the parties would lose without our support? Our only benchmark will be whether our actions strengthen our party and give new direction to the people of Telangana,” he affirmed.

BLF is working with a long-term vision of democratic and secular politics, rather than political expediencies, he said.

However, in five to six constituencies, based on the candidates fielded by other parties such as Telangana Jana Samithi, and also where chances are more for right wing, the Front would step out to let the better candidate win, Mr. Veerabhadram clarified. The first list of candidates will be revealed on September 24, he said.

Condemning the caste killings and attacks with respect to inter-caste marriages, Mr. Veerabhadram questioned why caretaker Chief Minister or ministers K. T. Rama Rao or T. Harish Rao have not responded to the murders so far.

BLF will organise a massive meeting on September 24 demanding a law for protection of couples marrying outside their caste. On the next day, demonstrations will be conducted in all mandal headquarters in front of MRO offices.
