Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan has said that nothing will stop BJP from occupying the Mayorship of Hyderabad in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections even if the party cadre took five per cent of the programmes of BJP-led NDA government to people.
He said Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu would take firm steps to develop Hyderabad as a really smart city if it got a Mayor, who was a BJP candidate.
Mr. Harsh Vardhan was speaking at a public meeting at Exhibition grounds which was considered as the launch of party’s campaign for GHMC polls. He added that elections were a great opportunity for party activists to serve the people. In the case of BJP, the role of the party cadre was all the more important because Prime Minister Narendra Modi continuously came up with ideas. The BJP will create history in the Bihar elections, he said.
The meeting was also addressed by Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy and MLA K. Laxman.
Importance of science
Union Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences Dr. Harsh Vardhan stressed upon the importance of science in achieving the objectives that the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) flagship programmes, including Swachh Bharat and Digital India, have set for the country.
The Minister interacted with scientists at the Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) here on Sunday. He urged the scientists to innovate and do more, while assuring support from the government in the institute’s endeavours. The Minister also announced that he would address pension-related concerns raised by the employees.
When asked about appointing a director to National Geophysical Research Institute, he said the process is underway. “The process to select a director is on and the institute is currently being managed by an in-charge director,” he said.
Senior officials at the institute said that nanotechnology and materials research, including grapheme, is taking place at the institute.
