The State Government has come in for heavy criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the city’s crumbling civic infrastructure which was once exposed by the Monday’s cloudburst which led to water logging, flooding, trees and walls collapsing besides overflowing water bodies, drains and sewer lines at many places.
At a press conference on Tuesday, BJP Telangana president and Musheerabad MLA K. Laxman questioned the commitment of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Municipal Administration Minister K. T. Rama Rao towards making the city into a “global city”.
Tall claims
“They have made tall claims about improving the civic infrastructure like roads, storm water drains, sewer lines, flyovers, bridge across Musi, its cleaning and various others assuring to spend hundreds of crores of rupees but the capital has only turned worse under their rule,” charged Dr. Laxman.
Roads were in bad shape for most stretches while the less said about the storm water drains and sewerage the better, he said, wondering about the protection and maintenance of over 4,000 water bodies in and around the twin cities. “In fact, there are more water bodies created during heavy rain with roads getting washed away and even the CM’s camp office and Minister quarters roads getting water logged,” he said.
Citizens who had voted the party to power in last municipal polls feel cheated, the BJP leader claimed and wanted to know why coordination meetings were not being held involving the city MLAs.
Ex-gratia demanded
He demanded ₹10 lakh as ex-gratia to the deceased in the wall collapse and provide food and shelter to the families dispossesed from their houses.
Dr. Laxman also stated that the party had firmed up a three pronged strategy to take on the TRS and take a shot at coming to power in the 2019 elections. It includes targetting the Government for its failures, family rule and corruption plus strengthening the party at the booth level and propagating the Modi Government’s schemes for the poor, women and youth.
Party membership is to be increased from 18 lakh to 25 lakh with at least 25 persons from SC/STs to be enrolled at every polling booth. While party chief Amit Shah will tour the State after the Gujarat elections in January, a rally of one lakh motorbikes from villages to the capital followed by a public meeting is to be held early next year. MLC N. Ramachander Rao was present.
