Students of BITS-Pilani, Shamirpet campus here, staged protests against the hike in annual fee cited in the recently announced fee structure for the next academic year on Sunday.

Even in the midst of final examinations students showed up in large numbers at the auditorium.

The director of Pilani campus addressed the students with the assurance to deliberate on the concerns raised. The protests were supported by similar peaceful movements in Pilani and Goa.

“Director of Hyderabad campus along with other senior faculty members addressed the studentsand assured to discuss the same with the other members of BITS administration.

However, students continued their silent protest at the auditorium,” said Pratyush Pulipaka, a final year engineering student.

1,200 participate

He said that around 1,200 students participated in the protest as the sudden hike of 15 % is creating huge financial burden on the students, which is unreasonable.

“Each student will end up paying nearly ₹2.10 lakh including tuition and hostel fee, against the ₹1.70 lakh compared to last year,” he said.
