At Arjun Naik tanda, located in Zaheerabad mandal, water scarcity has surfaced for several months now. With about 300 houses and a population of more than 500, the village is struggling with its water needs. “The water yield in the bore is slowly reducing. At times we have to wait an hour or so to get the water. There are no sufficient rains in the present season. We do not know what will be our situation in the next few months as the rainy season was almost over,” commented Cheenibai, of the village.

A woman was seen collecting water from the Mission Bhagiratha pipelines in a small water bottle and then powering it in big container.

Further from the tanda, in the outskirts, three youngsters were busy collecting water from borewell, filling them in two bigger drums and transporting them to their house. Around 20 plastic pots were kept at one point to collect water, with women waiting for their turn. Sometimes they wait for their turn for hours together.“A bore can cater to the needs of only a few houses. How does the government expect us to adjust with this? Why is it not addressing our problem? Who we have to approach?” asks Rathod, a resident.
