A newborn baby was allegedly abducted by a woman who accompanied the baby’s grandmother, Kalpana, to Niloufer Hospital. The police registered a case and launched a search for the woman, identified in CCTV footage.

According to the police, N. Nirmala of Mahabubnagar had given birth to a baby at Petlaburj Maternity hospital last Friday. As the newborn needed specialist attention, doctors had suggested moving the baby to Niloufer. On Sunday, the unidentified woman befriended the baby’s grandmother and assured her of help in shifting the baby. The two women went to Niloufer Hospital in an ambulance. At about 10. 30 a.m., she told Kalpana to get her tea from the canteen. Unsuspecting, the infant’s grandmother obliged. When Kalpana returned, she could not trace the woman and her grandchild.
