The Andhra Pradesh government will issue an order in a couple of days on fee reimbursement to Andhra students residing in Telangana in the wake of controversy over the Telangana Government fixing year 1956 as cut-off date to extend fee reimbursement.

Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu, replying to queries from several members in the Legislative Council on Tuesday said that State government termed the 1956 cut-off date to determine nativity as illegal and anti-constitutional. But AP government would take responsibility to bear the fee of students if Telangana government refused to pay them.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu offered to end the controversy even offered to bear 58 per cent of fee reimbursement burden on population basis. But there was no response from the Telangana government, the Minister said.

Responding to Leader of Opposition in the Council, C. Ramachandraiah, member Laxman Rao, the Minister said a decision would have to be taken on the fate of students whose parents came to Telangana after 1956 and the amount to be paid under fee reimbursement. “A decision will be taken in the meeting with the Chief Minister today,” he said.

He also said the State government was releasing Government of India scholarships to SC and ST students immediately.
