The South Central Railway (SCR) has unveiled a new mobile app ‘UTS’, exclusively for those travelling on unreserved tickets. After July 15 midnight, they can purchase tickets digitally through the app, with the option of getting a confirmation on the mobile and travel paperless.

However, if a passenger buys an unreserved ticket for another person through the mobile app, the latter will have to take a paper ticket from any of the booking counter at the station since they would not carry the mobile from which the ticket was booked, said General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav, on Thursday.

“This is for passengers’ convenience as many of them have smart phones now and it will save them from standing in long queues at booking counters. The UTS can be used to buy tickets from any station within the zone. Soon, we will make it applicable for Southern and East Coast Railways,” he said.

UTS can be downloaded on Android, Windows or iPhone platforms and after registration, passengers can book unreserved journey tickets, season tickets and platform tickets. Tickets can be purchased either through the R-Wallet where there is a 5% bonus on every recharge along with free usage, or through net banking, other mobile payment wallets or cards.

Principal chief commercial manager, M.G. Sekharam, who made a presentation, informed that the tickets can be booked 15 metres away from the station and within 5 km of the journey commencing from the station. However, only season tickets can be booked 10 days in advance as daily tickets can be purchased three hours before and is valid for two hours.

Moreover, paperless unreserved tickets booked through UTS cannot be cancelled. Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) will check tickets thus brought and image of the ticket can be obtained offline too.
