An app to live-track movement of RTC buses

Commuters can soon track the movement of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) city buses, check whether they have reached a particular stop and find out their departure and arrival times, and in the process save time. All this, in real time on a smart phone app.

Tentatively named ‘TSRTC Live!’, the app is being put through a final round of testing. Once it is done, it would go live. Speaking to The Hindu, Transport Secretary Sunil Sharma confirmed the development. He said in the first phase, passengers would be able to live-track buses travelling to and from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).

“We are working on this app. Buses to the airport can be tracked. But gradually, all the 10,500 buses will be covered as net connectivity is being planned for them,” said Mr. Sharma. The corporation is likely to install GPS devices on its fleet of 10,464 buses in a phased manner.

The TSRTC is collaborating with a tech company and would launch the app soon.

A drop-down menu enables users to select the stop such as Paryatak Bhavan, Care Hospitals or Cyber Towers. For instance, if a user selects Care Hospitals, he/she is shown the route in this case (AC) – Jubilee Bus Station to RGIA via Care Hospitals in Banjara Hills – along with the bus details, including bus registration number and its service type. Users can tap on the bus and track its movement in real time.

They can also tap on stop names, such as Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, and view a list of upcoming trips from the station to other towns and cities such as Mancherial, Utnoor or Asifabad. The app would also inform users when the bus is at the stop.

For those who want to book tickets, the app links itself to the portal www.tsrtconline.com.
