Those who grew up reading Amar Chitra Katha, wouldn’t want to miss Uncle Pai Day being celebrated in Hyderabad tomorrow at ACK Alive in Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills. ‘Uncle Pai Day’ is being organised to celebrate the 90th birth anniversary (September 17) of Anant Pai. Fondly known as uncle Pai, he founded Amar Chitra Katha in 1967 and also launched Tinkle Magazine in 1980.
To start with, the celebrations will begin with readers and fans sharing any kind of communication they might have had with Uncle Pai (can be sent to enquiry@ack-media.com). This will be showcased across all social media platforms. “We also have a whole bunch of artists and illustrators who will be paying tributes to uncle Pai in the form of drawings, doodles and sketches. We are also releasing a special video based on his life on our YouTube channels. Even Alexa will be joining in on the fun! Searching for #UnclePaiDay on September 17 should throw up some amazing content all centred around him,” confirms Preeti Vyas, president and COO, Amar Chitra Katha.

That is not all, the ACK teams will visit schools across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad where Amar Chitra Katha-trained storytellers will narrate stories to children, commemorating one of uncle Pai’s favourite traditions where he would spend time with school children, teaching them about our country’s rich history and culture. “We will also be conducting special workshops at our office in Mumbai where children will get to see how their favourite comic characters and mythological figures come to life. In addition to this, we will be launching special hardbound editions of the very first Tinkle Magazine and Amar Chitra Katha title ever, the perfect gift for the hardcore fan. We will have a series of discounts on our website and every order will receive a special commemorative postcard as a special thank you from our end. The postcards feature art by long time Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle collaborators like Archana Amberkar, Abhijeet Kini, Sahil Upalekar, Vineet Nair, Savio Mascarenhas and Charbak Dipta. There will be five special ‘golden’ postcards which will bear surprise gifts that will be given out,” informs Preeti.
